Young Writers Group

Hexham Young Writers Groups - 2025

Aged between 11-13yrs or 14-16yrs and want to write fiction or poetry? If so, try one of our creative writing courses which have been specially designed for aspiring young writers. Meeting fortnightly at the Queen’s Hall Arts Centre, you’ll explore how to create captivating characters and gripping plot lines and get valuable, constructive feedback on your writing with a professional writer and group leader.

Amanda Quinn will lead the under 14yrs group and Sarah Davy will lead the 14yrs plus group.

This series of 6 workshops will take place from 4pm – 5.30pm in the White Room at the Queen’s Hall on the following dates:

Each course has a small fee of £36 (£6 per session). Please do contact us if the fee is a barrier to taking part. These groups are supported by Hexham Book Festival and Queen’s Hall Arts.

COURSE LEADER 11-13: Amanda Quinn

Amanda is a writer and tutor who lives in Newcastle upon Tyne. Her short stories and poems have been published online and in print. She teaches creative writing and has delivered courses and workshops online and in community centres, libraries, museums, day centres, and schools across North East England to encourage and support people to write. She is particularly interested in helping people benefit from being creative in their everyday lives and her sessions are designed to be enjoyable as well as inspiring.

COURSE LEADER 14-16: Sarah Davy

Sarah Davy is a writer, facilitator and mentor living and working in rural Northumberland. Her short fiction is published online and in print and her short plays have been performed in Newcastle, Manchester and London. Sarah was awarded the Finchale Prize for Short Fiction at the Northern Writers Awards in 2023. Sarah is the Youth Engagement Manager for Hexham Book Festival and is passionate about encouraging young people to enjoy both reading and writing.
