John Simpson – The Word Detective

Sunday 7th May, 3:00pm - 4:00pm

Prior’s Hall, Hexham Abbey

From Serendipity to Selfie Why do words suddenly appear on the scene, and others fall from grace? John Simpson was until recently the Chief Editor of The Oxford English Dictionary, so who better to guide us through the labyrinth that is the English language. Can dictionaries ever be definitive? Doesn’t language change as quickly as we define it? And are texts, emails and tweets the death of language? Expect some swearing (but only in Anglo-Saxon).

Chaired by Harry Pearson.

Due to high demand the venue has changed to The Prior’s Hall, Hexham Abbey.

This event has now sold out.
