An Inside View of the Syrian Crisis Diana Darke is a fluent Arabic speaker and owner of a courtyard house in Old Damascus, her book provides a human context to the revolution, the realities on the ground inside the country and why Syria was always going to be different to other ‘Arab-Spring’ countries. Woven into the story of buying and restoring an ancient house over many years are layer upon layer of Syrian history, philosophy, art and architecture.
